Advocating Superior Standards in the Practice of CranioSacral Therapy
Recognized world-wide and endorsed by The Upledger Institute International, Inc.®, and John E. Upledger, DO, OMM, Developer of CranioSacral Therapy
To advocate the highest professional standards in the practice of CranioSacral Therapy as developed by its founder, John E. Upledger, D.O., O.M.M. and to protect the rights of individuals to receive—and therapists to practice—CranioSacral Therapy as a natural, effective approach to healthcare.
The American CranioSacral Therapy Association (ACSTA) is a professional member organization dedicated to the research, development and advancement of the science, art and practice of CranioSacral Therapy as defined by developer John E. Upledger, DO, OMM. It is the only craniosacral association recognized and endorsed by Dr. Upledger and The Upledger Institute. Membership is open to all CranioSacral Therapy practitioners and proponents of the modality.
The purposes and goals of ACSTA fall within four primary areas of endeavor. They are:
The goal of ACSTA is first and foremost to promote the acceptance of and accessibility to CranioSacral Therapy as a healthcare modality. ACSTA operates on three basic levels to accomplish this goal:
Adherence to superior standards in the research, education and practice of CranioSacral Therapy is integral to the purposes and goals of ACSTA. Among the organization's prime responsibilities, therefore, is to serve as an industry monitor. In this capacity, ACSTA works to:
Endorse appropriate educational and competency standards for providers that will protect the public and the profession from unethical, incompetent, or illegal acts by its members or others practicing in the cranial field.
Promote legislation that supports the CranioSacral Therapy profession, and oppose legislation that may harm or damage it.
Gain the respect and confidence of professionals and the public in general.
Building a strong and unified constituency requires more than simply ensuring a practitioner’s right to practice. ACSTA believes it is equally important to aid the professional development and personal growth of its membership. As such, the organization endeavors to:
Promote a spirit of cooperation and exchange of CranioSacral Therapy ideas and techniques among members.
Assist individual members in licensure, regulation and related healthcare issues as appropriate.
The use and acceptance of CranioSacral Therapy as an effective means of healthcare will continue to grow as healthcare practitioners and regulators, the insurance industry and the public in general develop a greater understanding of and access to the work. With that in mind, ACSTA strives to:
Maintain the most current information and resources on CranioSacral Therapy.
Establish CST as an integral aspect to achieving and/or maintaining optimum health.
Position the organization as an influential member of the healthcare community.
Work cooperatively with other healthcare providers for the wellness of clients.
Perpetuate ACSTA’s worldwide growth, development, organizational effectiveness and recognition.
